Community Reporter  – Summer Student
Canada Summer Jobs Grant Program for Youth
Two positions - 8 weeks @ 30 hours per week @ $17/hour
Are you:

  • a student or recent graduate of a Journalism, Photography, Digital Media, Marketing, Business or similar college or university program?
  • an excellent storyteller with great interview and photography skills?
  • interested in exploring our community, attending events, and meeting local business owners?
  • friendly, organized and reliable?
  • able to complete tasks independently and with a high degree of accuracy?
  • eligible for the CSJ program and looking for a great summer job with the opportunity to contribute to making our community better while building your portfolio?
 
The Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT) is hiring two Community Reporters / Photographers Summer Students to…
  • attend various community events (which may include some evenings/weekends) to take photos, gather quotes from attendees;
  • following the event, use the photos and information gathered to write short articles/posts and content for social media, website, blog, etc.;
  • communicate with local DBOT member businesses to set appointments to visit their location to photograph and interview them;
  • create articles/posts featuring these local businesses, to be used on our website, Dufferin County’s new tourism website, social media, and shared with the members;  and
  • perform other related duties as assigned.
 
 
Candidates must
  • be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Program:
    • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
    • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
    • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • have reliable transportation to destinations throughout Dufferin County (mileage reimbursed); &
  • be able to work with minimal supervision using independent discretion and judgment.
