About Us
Located in the heart of Orangeville’s downtown core, The Bluebird Café and Grill originated in 1982 from a natural food store owned by Jennifer Grant. Jennifer had a deep desire to open a little healthy eatery in conjunction with her retail operation. When the unit beside her store on Broadway became available, she leapt at the opportunity. “The Bluebird Café” name was inspired by a local regular and friend who had been a driving force in re-populating the Eastern Bluebird in our county. The bluebird box program was initiated to bring the bluebird numbers back up to a healthy presence.
The Bluebird Café was originally an unlicensed, pure vegetarian eatery but quickly broadened its fare. Jennifer sold the business a few years later but the Bluebird tradition of healthy, whole food was continued and expanded to include some Italian cuisine.
In 1989 the business changed hands again and officially became The Bluebird Café and Grill and evolved one more time. Most recently in 2019, husband and wife Michelle and Rick Arsenault, locals of Orangeville since 2006 and long-time hospitality professionals purchased the business and continue its standing traditions.
“The Bluebird was the first restaurant we dined at when we moved to Orangeville and it remained our favourite ever since. We always said if the opportunity to purchase it ever arose, we would jump on it. We did not want to see anything happen to a staple of our community.”
